Similar to VLP-I, this plan puts your student(s) under the care of Higher Ground Academy. No other school attendance is required. Higher Ground Academy takes care of your paperwork requirements to register your student(s) with the state of Delaware Department of Education as attending HGA. Students participating in HLP must agree to spend a minimum of four hours, five days per week on their learning plans. However, there is great flexibility in this schedule. As long as a minimum of 20 hours per week is reached, learning time may come at any hour and on any day of the week. Activities such as karate lessons or Little League practice/games may be included as physical education hours. Classes with municipal parks and recreation departments also may be counted as learning time. Here’s where the “hybrid” part comes in -- HLP includes up to two hours per week of online and guidance on instructional topics by one or more experienced learning facilitators. It is up to the student to use up his/her hours each week. Unused hours may not be carried over to a subsequent week. In addition to the two online hours, HLP includes up to two hours per week of in-person instructional guidance hours, in either a one-on-one or a small group (less than seven total students) setting. In-person hours are scheduled in advance on a monthly basis. Once scheduled, instructional time is set for the current calendar month. Opportunity to change the schedule occurs at the beginning of each calendar month. Every effort will be made to comply with the students’ requested schedules, while still considering the availability of facilitators. Technology requirements for the HGA virtual/hybrid programs may be found here. |
